Well, Hello 2019: Let's Walk + Talk.

99Walks

By Andrea Daniell January 8, 2019

Well, here we are. For better or for worse, 2019 has started. Time to pack away the last of the decorations, and hopefully not the resolutions; time to clear the clutter and our minds. Hopefully.

But then again, if you're anything like me, this year probably came in the same way last year went out - chaotic and unruly, but packed with lots of goodness in the middle of it all.

I started out the year trying to find my clarity by joining in the #99Walks movement. The concept is really simple; set a goal, walk, connect. Connect with yourself, connect with each other, connect with nature. I teamed up with 2 other Macaroni Kid publishers to spit our goal of 99 miles per month, over the next 3 months. About a week in for me, and I find the biggest benefit to be on the days (brutal honesty alert) when I go by myself. Without wrangling a kid into winter gear, without hearing about who wants to go where -- Brooks and Mike want to head to the marina, Abbey always wants to walk inward toward school and friends -- … See? Without all that, I can just GO. I've been listening to some great podcasts, admiring all the architecture, and kind of just... being.

The other thing I'm starting new in 2019 is a renewed sense of Grosse Pointe Macaroni Kid, and how (if?) I want to remain at it's helm and continue to grow. Maybe a little heavy, but immediately speaking I'm not going anywhere. Instead, what I'm doing is raising my white flag, and reorganizing what is most important to me. If you don't know much about me or my background, you might not know I spent 15 years in corporate sales. When I took over GPMK, I thought the sales could just be an after thought. I really just wanted to write again. Now it's time to focus on that sales aspect again, and I'm ready for some help. In order to keep my own sanity, I'm looking to bring on a (very flexible) part time Sales Assistant. Think you know someone who might be perfect? Send them my way.

Also in this issue, be sure to check out the updates from Grosse Pointe Public Schools, including the calendar -- KINDERGARTEN INFO NIGHT IS COMING! Tell your friends, grab your tissues and report to your neighborhood school on January 17th.

I think that does it for my updates. See you next week!
