Summer Programs

Registration is open for many of our GPPSS Summer Programs - from Safety Town to Summer Learning. This week we will highlight opportunities for High School Students. Grosse Pointe Public Schools will once again partner with St. Clair Shores Adult and Community Education (SCSACE) to provide opportunities for our high school students to earn credit through their 2019 summer programming. Over the years, our students have attended courses offered through SCSACE when we've had to cancel courses due to low enrollment. There will be a variety of online courses (Odysseyware replaces Michigan Virtual) and regular

seat-time courses offered to ensure students reach their established goals. These courses will be offered at North Lake High School in St. Clair Shores. Odysseyware online courses as well as regular seat-time courses meet 4x/week with a teacher and virtual Odysseyware online courses meet 1x/week with a teacher.

Additionally, through this partnership for the convenience of Grosse Pointe students, SCSACE will also offer Odysseyware coursesONLY at a satellite location (Grosse Pointe North High School (pending sufficient enrollment). Classes will be held Monday thru Thursday beginning on Tuesday, June 25th and end on Thursday, August 1st. Courses will not be in session On July 4th due to the holiday. For more information on registration, class schedule and summer school calendar, please refer to the district website. If you have any questions, please contact Chad Johnson at (586) 285-8789 or at cjohnson@lsps.org. Registration will begin June 17, 2019.

Measles guidelines from Wayne County Health Department

With the number of measles cases growing in Michigan, the Wayne County Health Department has issued guidelines on attendance of unvaccinated studentsand staff who have not had measles, as well as a Measles Fact Sheet. There are no cases in GPPSS at this time.

Are you using Peachjar?

The school district has launched a new mobile-friendly communication tool called "Peachjar."  School-approved flyers will now be sent to you electronically and posted on the school website. Simply click flyers you receive via email or click the Peachjar button on our homepage. This "green" initiative will save our school tons of paper and reduce copy costs by thousands of dollars. On top of that, posting school flyers in this electronic backpack streamlines administrative efforts of teachers, office staff, and volunteers like our PTOS. You can set notification preferences and un-enroll anytime.

South LAX Fundraiser

It's that time of the year again. Yes, spring is upon us (thankfully, what a winter we've had).  The GP South girls lacrosse team is once again selling mulch.  It is their one and only fundraiser for the year. Details are all the same as last year, too:

  • choose from cedar, hardwood, black, brown
  • bags are 2 cubic feet, same as Lowe's/Home Depot
  • delivered to your door on Saturday May 11
  • $5/bag (delivered, locally sourced from West Branch, MI)

You're helping immensely the lacrosse program.  The money funds off-season tournaments, training, and equipment. The order form is on Peachjar.

Know a student starting next fall?

Word of mouth remains the most powerful marketing tool. Help us encourage community members with little ones to explore our neighborhood schools. It is critical that families establish or verify residency soon if they have a student entering GPPSS next fall, particularly for kindergarten (by May 1) and Young Fives (by April 18).Click here to see the pre-enrollment process (step one) and the residency documents (step two) required by board policy.

This Frequently Asked Questions document was created in response to inquiries from families this year.
