GPPS Update: Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year!

September 6, 2018

Welcome to the 2018-19 School Year!

The Grosse Pointe Public School System is honored to partner with you this year on your child's educational pathway.

A few new communication tools are being implemented to address comments made in the annual customer satisfaction survey. Parents specifically requested a way to be able to choose which notifications they will receive and how often. You already received information on how to access student information at any time through Schoology Learning Management Center. Those instructions are also posted on our website www.gpschools.org. Emergency communications such as school closings and evacuation drills will come through our InTouch notification system.

Weekly updates will transition to Smore next month with an additional opportunity to opt out without impacting emergency notifications. Flyers will transition to a mobile platform called Peachjar with non profit and not for profit groups having the opportunity to upload and pay for flyers in one stop. Again, parents can choose how often they will receive these notifications. One of the most important ways we communicate is at our Back to School Nights and the schedule for those is listed below alphabetically by level.

North-South tailgate, game and joint band concert

Chris Takis and Thomas Torrento will lead the South and North bands in a joint performance during the Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce Tailgate before the North/South football game. This year, the game is at North High School, 707 Vernier, on Friday, October 12. The tailgate runs 5-7 p.m. The game kicks off at 7 p.m. The tailgate is the start to a community-wide weekend celebration ending with our annual GPPSS Open House from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, October 14. Chamber restaurants and shops will have discounts. Dozens of homes will be open through our partnership with the Grosse Pointe Board of Realtors. Help us spotlight our community and bring families to the area! Invite friends and neighbors who might not regularly enter our school buildings, to join us for student-led tours and Explore GP.
