Deep River Snacks Really "Gives a Chip"

How One Company Gives Back and Makes Yummy Chips Along the Way

By Andrea Daniell May 11, 2018

It's been a week.

To start, today is deadline day here at Grosse Pointe Macaroni Kid. Which means I'm already under the gun, even if it's my own gun. I have my almost 3-year old home with me, and later this evening we'll be attending his sister's dance recital dress-rehearsal. It's also the last day of Staff Appreciation Week at school.

The 3-year old, Brooks, is currently melting down because in a series of really horrible events, I wouldn't let him play golf in the house, I took away television, and then - to add insult to injury - I refused him a snack. Not because I'm the most evil Mom ever (I am), but because he clearly was (is) on a path of bad decision making. And by "bad decision making" I mean total and utter destruction. Sigh.

So what is a Mom to do when she's balancing it all; has a screaming child, a million things to do, AND is trying to write the best article ever about some amazingly delicious kettle cooked potato chips...?

THE CHIPS!

Duh! That's it! The chips that Deep River Snacks sent me will save the day, literally!
{Here's where I tell you that this article is sponsored by Deep River Snacks. I was compensated for this article and providing my review, but as always ALL opinions belong to me.}

First, I gave a bag to the boy. For background, Brooks is: wheat-peanut-treenut-dairy-egg-fish-seafood-soy-garlic-and-sesame free. Say all THAT three times fast, eh? But these chips... HE CAN HAVE THESE CHIPS!

Seriously, this is a big deal to us. These chips are all cooked in sunflower oil (never a blend), they're certified gluten-free and non-GMO, and they're made in a nut free facility- both tree nuts and peanuts. I kid you not, this is like the holy trinity of allergy requirements for us, and the best part is, I don't have to order them, like I do with so many of Brooks's foods. These are readily available at Meijer!

Back to the day. One situation managed, on to the next. The Staff Appreciation event at school! Another perfect fit for the chips! Today's theme as we wrap up the week is "You really raise the bar", and the PTO is providing an afternoon snack bar full of yummy, healthy snacking options in this cool snack caddy.

And since the Deep River Snacks slogan is "Because We Give a Chip!", I thought it would be a great fit to partner with other various PTOs around town to give out chips to staff and students, teaching them a little about this really cool company. For instance: Deep River Snacks lives up to their slogan by giving back 10% of profits to charities that have personally affected them. How cool is that, right? And, the stories. Oh my gosh you guys, the stories. For example, the bag I'm holding right now:

It made me tear up the first time I read that. How could it not? I get it. Brooks, that kid I told you about that can't have basically 75% of foods? He suffers from a rare disease called Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE), and he was diagnosed a year ago this very week. What his disease means is that if he has any of those foods I listed above, his esophagus will be under attack by eosinophils; a white blood cell usually found in the lower digestive tract, and usually deployed to kill parasites. Yep. Those suckers think that in Brooks's body, certain foods are predatory parasites. So you can see why simple, clean ingredients are so important to us. And why championing causes like this are so important to us. And why these chips have been such a perfect fit for us, especially this week.

Now back to the PTO, and our partnership with Deep River Snacks. Look for me over the next few weeks at different school events around town. I'll be the one in the green shirt, handing out these yummy chips and talking to families about the important work Deep River Snacks does.

Also keep a look out for us at events hosted by the Eastside Youth Sports Foundation, another fantastic organization I was able to partner with through this opportunity. ESYSF is dedicated to the growth of youth sports on the east side of Metro Detroit. Through grants and scholarships, ESYSF is making sports available to all children, and providing players with invaluable life lessons. Look for Deep River Snacks at their various spring and summer clinics!
